Late Night Musings

I am a late-night person. I usually go to bed at about 1:30 AM and rise at 6:30 AM. Funny, I am getting back to my work out regimen and it is making this sleeping pattern really work for me as opposed to going to bed earlier, but I digress.

Staying up late allows my mind to wander and drift. The solitude, the silence and the stillness really gets my river flowing with waves of ideas. Oh yeah, late-nights are full of absurdly bad television programing. The infomercials and very bad movies are a sight to behold. Tonight's bad movie, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.. This movie was terrible. In this multi-platform time in history, an informatio junkie like me will have this bad movie up in the back ground and start the googling, wikipediaing, youtubing and imdbing. This can go on for hours. I learn stupid, awesomely audacious and things that rate of the chart in unintentional comedy. I

I forgot that Ice T was in both Breakin' movies as the MC. Remember this from Breakin'?



And YouTube doesn't stop there! This gem pops up and I am glad that Ice T stuck to rapping, porn and playing a cop on TV.

Saturday Night Film: American Gangster.

I saw this film in the theatre last year and loved it. It debuts tonight on HBO. One thing I enjoy about watching films in multiple viewings is getting inside the interplay between certain actors. I have always loved Denzel Washington. He has a walk I wish I had. He strolls with a rhythm, his gait swings with confidence. Check it out in the trailer:



Russell Crowe and Josh Brolin put in great performances in the film. My favorite interactions are between Denzel and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Here is one scene:

Special shout to my man Joe Morton as Charlie Williams, Frank Lucas's lawyer. Joe is in so many movies and TV shows, it's ridiculous. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Morgan in 2000. He was receiving some award from the Screen Actors Guild and I was playing in a jazz band, that provided the entertainment. A very nice and gracious man.

Ok whom am I kidding?  This is a collection of very passionate and knowledge gents that view the world through the lenses of comics and graphic novels. They also possess an encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture from the 1970s and beyond.  The recording goes up every 2 weeks on Wednesdays. Today is the LEOg number 12. The discussion is a free flow of issues concerning comics and the industry, music, movies and pop culture. It features the electric bass stylings of yours truly as a bed for the mayhem. I must warn you, these are long, funny recordings were drinking is encouraged. There is salty language, but in these times, heroes have to be blunt!

Saturday Night Fights

It's Saturday night and TNT is playing Saving Private Ryan. The fight scene with the German and Private Stanley Mellish (Adam Goldberg) is one of the most intense fight scenes ever. Actually, this movie has the most realistic battle scenes ever caught on film. The D-Day opening scene is awesome. Here is the part of the opening scene:
